Porsche Star Wars Starfighter Concept

Porsche is relying on the Force for a new design and teaming up with Lucasfilm to create the Star Wars x Porsche Starfighter. “Developing a spacecraft with clear Porsche design DNA is exciting and challenging,” said Porsche AG’s Vice President of Style Michael Mauer. “Even though they do not seem to share many elements at first glance, both worlds have a similar design philosophy. The close collaboration with the Star Wars design team inspires and fascinates us—I’m sure that both sides can draw major benefits from this exchange.”

“We are bringing together two worlds with this project: the exotic film design of a galaxy far, far away and the precision work that goes into developing emotive Porsche sports cars,” says Doug Chiang, Vice President and Executive Creative Director of Lucasfilm. “This collaboration promises to produce an innovative design that will blend the best of both brands to create an exciting new starship worthy of Porsche and Star Wars.”

Working under the idea that the Star Wars and Porsche Starfighter would be a combination of X-wing, Y-wing, U-wing, and the Taycan, the team was also given the parameters that the ship had to have two front entries, a large rear cargo door, and form for a maximum of five crew members. The team came up with the Tri-Wing S-91 Pegasus Starfighter. You can pick up on the Porsche influenced design of the ship thanks to tis low, sloping roofline. Where the Taycan would have headlights, the Pegasus has low front air inlets. The rear light bars are reminiscent of the current 911. The Porsche team opted to go with a wide, thin body rather than a tall narrow one so that they might stay more true to the Porsche design ethos. Inside, there is seating for three, with the pilot in the front where there are plenty of cockpit instruments. The model is ready for the premiere of “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker,” and while the model won’t appear in the film, Porsche’s first all-electric car, the Taycan, will be on display at the premiere.
